"..gypsy jammin is what the lovely ladies in this troupe do best:  Django Reinhardt would have loved it....[they] know how to tear it up on stage, and can jam with the best bands out there.  If you're up for a little musical diversity, jonesing for a new sound, you'll want to put this outfit on your radar; you'll be glad you did..."  - Charlie Sullivan, Colorado Music Buzz

"They describe their sound as “gypsy grass” but I recommend taking a listen for yourself because I don’t believe that term does justice to the depth of their music." - Josh Darnell, Gin & Bear It - Tales from Both Sides of the Bar

"OK, the group plays Celtic tinged folk music (complete with fiddler and mandolin player), but don’t be fooled, The Gristle Gals have more in common with riot girls than Celtic women. Beneath the beautiful melodies and bad-ass fiddle playing is a pulsing rebellious streak that’s pure rock..."
- Charles O'Mara, UCD Advocate

"The first time I hear the band I felt like I was simultaneously transported into Romania, russia, and Appalachia.  At the same time it felt like we were all part of a Vaudeville variety show.  It's great to hear a flute and fiddle creating counterpoint on Gypsy melodies in what seems to be a bluegrass number.  Then, out of the blue, they'll whistle a Hora in a tune called the Alabama Song"  - Central City resident Hillary Peden

"The Gristle Gals are taking the Front Range by storm."  - Marc Tonglen, The Mountain Ear

Gristle Gals Next Show

An Evening with The Gristle Gals
on Sep 18, 2010 at 09.00pm
at Skylark Lounge
takes place in
11 days

How about a “Hell Yeah” for spring?

The gals still have a little bit of a cold, but we’re on the mend and looking forward to some fun shows….. playing the Other Side with Asylum Street Spankers, for example, on Saturday. They’re a great big theatrical, goofy mess of cool musicians and tons of instruments. I’m expecting to be inspired to take up yet another instrument and fall prey to the joys of a steep learning curve.

If anyone is feeling socially conscious tomorrow, come by our show in Nederland- Thursday night, it’s a benefit for The Watershed School in Boulder. I’ve tutored there and loved it- it’s a really lively alternative school worth supporting; 15 bucks will get you in. We’re playing with local allstars KC Groves and Vince Herman, Grammy award winning Sally Van Meter and our ole pals the Mile Markers among many others. It’ll be a classic Nederland dysfunctional family affair. Emil’s gonna be there with his quadrahawk- if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s an impressive derivative of the Mohawk.

We’ve got Zios on Wednesday (we play that every first Wednesday of the month) and Jezebel’s Juke Joint coming up which are fun little spots. And…. Drum role please…. Our cd release party!!!! 4/20, we celebrate the release of our first album, On the Lam, at Cervantes Other Side with Greensky Bluegrass. And then we play the meadowlark for a VIP cd release in May- more on that to come. We love this cd and we can’t wait to share it with all of you. It was a great project for us and we’re looking forward to hearing what you think.

Again- thanks for all the support and hope you’re all doing well,
Love, the Gals
